January 2023

We kept New Years Eve very mellow because the next day Jake and Madden got to go to the new SoFi Stadium to watch the Rams v. Chargers.  They had a blast together.

Jake continued the tradition and ran the Carlsbad Half Marathon.  We of course went out and supported him.

BizTown Field Trip

BizTown is the field trip that all 5th grade looks forward too.  BizTown is a simulated town that allows students to operate banks, manage restaurants, work at a bank and even be voted in as Mayor of the whole town, and those are just a few of the many companies/jobs that are available.  Skylar sadly missed out on BizTown due to Covid, so I was really excited to check it out with Madden.   When they got the list of jobs Madden knew immediately what he wanted....he wanted to be Mayor of BizTown.  All the jobs were assigned by the teachers, but Mayor was voted by the entire 5th grade class.  Not only did the whole 5th grade class have to vote for you, but you had to give a speech in front of the whole grade as to why you would be the best man for the job.  Madden had one day to write his speech so right when he got home he got on his computer and started writing.  The next day all the 5th graders were put into the MPR where 8 students running for the job gave their speeches.  Madden said he was super nervous to give his speech but he said the whole grade was cheering him one when his finished and he felt like he had the job in the bag.  The kids voted and Madden was the winner by a landslide!!  We were so proud of him!!

The weeks leading up to BizTown the kids were doing in class learning for the job positions they were assigned.   Madden would meet with all the kids who had city council positions to discuss how they were going to make BizTown run smoothly.  Madden was in heaven with it all.  BizTown was all he talked about, just counting down the days until it was time to actually go.

Finally after waiting weeks the big day was finally here.  Madden wanted to look the part so he had me buy him a tie and a sports coat.  He had to give a big speech in front of his school and the other elementary school that was there with us.

Madden worked so hard all day.  He had to approve budgets, sign checks, and go to business to business and decide who he thought was the hardest working CEO of the whole town.  Needless to say, he was running around all day.

Getting interviewed by the local news station.

Giving his speech.  He was flagged by the two police officers of the day.

I was lucky enough to work at the bank with all of Maddens buddies.  Each student got paid twice in the day so we were cashing pay checks all day.

Ian was the sound editor of the news station.

Madden and his buddies had a great day.  It was so fun to be there as a parent.  Madden did just an incredible job as Mayor and I know that is something he is going to remember for a lifetime.
