Last Day of 5th/7th Grade - June 2023

Skylar had a great 7th year.  If you ask her, she didn't love it. Didn't like having lunch with the 6th graders and hated her english class, but she survived and got straight A (well almost...for some reason got a B in Dance PE).  Hard to believe she only had one more year of middle school.

End of era.  After 8 years at Poinsettia we no longer have a child in elementary school.  Excited for the start of Madden's next journey.

Madden's 5th Grade Promotion - June 2023

It's the end of the era for our family.  Madden clocked out of Elementary school this year and is heading to join Skylar at Middle School.  He had a pretty relaxed 5th grade year.  Class with a handful of buddies and having Mr. Castro as his teacher made his last year at Poinsettia a blast.

Since March he has been talking about leaving Poinsettia.  So when promotion day came he was more than ready for it.

Getting his certificate.

Madden and Mr. Castro.

Julian, Madden, Ian, Travis, Cooper

Madden and William.  Friends since before Kindergarten.

Mr. Mike the boys old janitor showed up to their promotion.  They boys were so excited to see him.

Pool Party at the Mirkin's to celebrate the graduates.

The boys did crash the girls pool party at La Costa Resort.

Fun Day for all the 5th Graders.

The foam party was probably the best party of the fun day.

Onto his next chapter.... I can't wait to see what is in store for him while in middle school.

BizTown Field Trip

BizTown is the field trip that all 5th grade looks forward too.  BizTown is a simulated town that allows students to operate banks, manage restaurants, work at a bank and even be voted in as Mayor of the whole town, and those are just a few of the many companies/jobs that are available.  Skylar sadly missed out on BizTown due to Covid, so I was really excited to check it out with Madden.   When they got the list of jobs Madden knew immediately what he wanted....he wanted to be Mayor of BizTown.  All the jobs were assigned by the teachers, but Mayor was voted by the entire 5th grade class.  Not only did the whole 5th grade class have to vote for you, but you had to give a speech in front of the whole grade as to why you would be the best man for the job.  Madden had one day to write his speech so right when he got home he got on his computer and started writing.  The next day all the 5th graders were put into the MPR where 8 students running for the job gave their speeches.  Madden said he was super nervous to give his speech but he said the whole grade was cheering him one when his finished and he felt like he had the job in the bag.  The kids voted and Madden was the winner by a landslide!!  We were so proud of him!!

The weeks leading up to BizTown the kids were doing in class learning for the job positions they were assigned.   Madden would meet with all the kids who had city council positions to discuss how they were going to make BizTown run smoothly.  Madden was in heaven with it all.  BizTown was all he talked about, just counting down the days until it was time to actually go.

Finally after waiting weeks the big day was finally here.  Madden wanted to look the part so he had me buy him a tie and a sports coat.  He had to give a big speech in front of his school and the other elementary school that was there with us.

Madden worked so hard all day.  He had to approve budgets, sign checks, and go to business to business and decide who he thought was the hardest working CEO of the whole town.  Needless to say, he was running around all day.

Getting interviewed by the local news station.

Giving his speech.  He was flagged by the two police officers of the day.

I was lucky enough to work at the bank with all of Maddens buddies.  Each student got paid twice in the day so we were cashing pay checks all day.

Ian was the sound editor of the news station.

Madden and his buddies had a great day.  It was so fun to be there as a parent.  Madden did just an incredible job as Mayor and I know that is something he is going to remember for a lifetime.

Madden's Copa de Carlsbad Soccer Tournament

One of the perks of being a 5th grader is that you get to try out and play on the schools soccer team.  The Copa de Carlsbad Elementary School one day soccer tournament is a awesome tradition that the district has and no one was more excited for it than Madden. Maddens closes buddies made the team which was just icing on the cake for him.  Being one of the only true soccer players on the team, Madden knew he was going to have to play 3x as much as the other boys, but he was so hyped up for it.  Our boy played their hearts out and made it all the way to the semi-finals, losing by only 1 goal.  Madden played amazing and hard until the last second of the third game.  It was such a fun day for these boys!

Madden Student of the Month Award

For the month of October Madden received the Citizenship Award and we couldn't of been more proud of him.  He is rocking 5th grade.  Getting great grade and his teacher and nothing but the sweetest things to say about him.  Everyday I drop him off at school I'm in awe that he is going to be in Middle School next year.  I'm just trying to cherish this last year of elementary school for him.

First Day of 7th & 5th Grade

Pretty much at a lost for words on this one.  No clue how we have a 7th grader and 5th grader.  Can't believe we are on our last year of elementary school.  Kids seemed really happy with their classes and teachers.  Madden got Mr. Castro, which is the teacher he really wanted and he has his best buddies, Ian and Cooper in class with him.  Skylar wasn't thrilled with her english teacher but was happy with the rest.  She is doing ASB as her elective again this year which we were happy about.  Here's to another year of school for our two lovies.
