March 2020

So March started like it does every year with us celebrating my birthday up in Mammoth.  If someone would of told me right when this picture was taken that a week from now your lives will be completely turned upside down, I never would of thought it.

Yes about 10 days after my birthday our country was hit with the Covid-19 Pandemic. The kids schools closed, Jake was told no more traveling for work, restaurants, parks, beaches stores, gyms, sports for the kids everything we know and loved we are being told to stay away from.  We have to stay in our homes and only go out for the necessary things such as food or medicine.  We are allowed to take walks and runs but we must stay 6 feet away from people.  It all seems so surreal that its hard to wrap your head around it but we are doing out best as a family to get through it together.  Here are some of the highlights from our Covid-19 shutdown.

The kids are homeschooling and are doing a great job.  I feel really fortunate that they are sticking to the program and not fighting me everyday about doing school work.  I wouldn't call myself their teacher, I feel like I'm more of a supervisor to make sure they are getting their work done.  We come up with a school schedule that is working for us so hopefully we can keep it until June.

Art class.

Jake and Madden did Covid Mohawk haircuts.

The kids keep in touch with their friends using Zoom chat rooms.

We started a weekly Covid-19 family challenge that we have been doing on Sundays.  Madden was the champ of week 1.

Here are some of the different challenges we had to participant in.

Jake took week 2.  We will see how many weeks the challenge actually last.

Since we have to keep apart when out Skylar started riding her bike again during all this.  I could tell that Madden was a bit jealous that Skylar was on her bike and when we rode on either his electronic scooter or hoverboard it would die out on him.  So after 3 or so years of refusing to ride a bike I was able to get Madden on Skylars to "try it" and within 15 minutes he was riding like he had been riding for years.  He loved it so much that, that night we bought him a bike and now that it has arrived we haven't been able to keep him off it.  So it took a world pandemic to get Madden's stubborn butt to FINALLY ride a bike.

  1. Thank you for this postitve take on what your fabulous family is doing during this trying time. Love that Madden road his bike. Liked Skylar and Jake challenging the "wall." And, Jake, your "discipline" t-shirt was perfect. I liked that Nicole said she is not a teacher but more of a supervisor of lessons. Keep up the good work during our months apart.
    Love always,
    Suzie/Grand-ma
